Junk Drawer
an exploration of odds & ends
Junk Drawer is a zine and project inspired by objects,
seeking out ephemera and overlooked odds & ends.
It's a place to belong for things with no place to belong to.
It’s an exploration into the histories, stories, and imagined backgrounds
of things, all ready to be discovered, pondered and shared.
This zine is about second hand stuff, and the random, indirect nature of things. It is essentially about engaging in the junk drawer aesthetic.
Junk Drawer Zine #1 - Indirect Objects
A chronical and a how-to junking guide, all from Junk Days. This is the annual event where people in certain suburbs throw out all kinds of good stuff, and certain other people go out looking for stuff.
Junk Drawer Zine #2 - Junk Days
This is an exploration into a junk drawer. The odds & ends within are full of stories, memories, and inspire various observations.
Junk Drawer Zine #3 - Odds & Ends
Junk Drawer Zine #4 - Finds
An ongoing search for interesting things around the city lead to this zine, including some garage sale-ing alley digging, and just random finds.
Junk Drawer Zine #5 - Junk Drawers On The Go
Junk drawers need not always be stationary, and many odds and ends like to travel along wherever you go. Backpacks, purses and wallets often have their junk drawer sections.
Junk Drawer Zine #6 - Junk Drawer Landscape
This zine goes outside the drawer, as the city landscape is viewed as one giant junk drawer. From old buildings to train lines to various oddities, these leftover parts of the city are like odds and ends of the landscape. Some appear permanent, but may disappear at any time.
Junk Drawer Zine #7 - Junk Drawer Landscape Part 2
This zine returns to the drawer, only to discover that the odds and ends within point back to the city landscape. The clues are in the addresses marked on various objects, and from there the quest for their origins begins.
Junk Drawer Zine #8 - Slighly Fabulous Products
The latest marvels and life-changing products are featured here. Well, they were the latest maybe 15 to 50 years ago. That was probably how long they were stored in a junk drawer, until they were found at estate sales and rediscovered. They might not have caught on, but each was inspired in its own way.
Junk Drawer Zine #9 - Album of Lost Moments
So many people in old photographs remain lost to history, yet there they remain, their images captured on paper, glass or tin. Their moments are frozen in time, and they have been reimagined anew in an album of collected stories: flash fiction inspired by the flash of a camera.
Junk Drawer Zine #10 - The Junk Drawer Guide To Time Travel
Going to an estate sale at an old house can be like traveling back in time. You may have had a moment like that, when you actually felt like you were there, in a kitchen from the 1950's, or an attic in the 1970's...perhaps you were there. What if you could go back? This is the guide that tells you how, and describes actual experiences using objects as starting points.
