Fastenation
Installation collaboration with artist Paranoid Girl. Art pieces were attached to a fence around an abandoned lot. The building next door was a former manufacturer of fasteners, and was slated for demonlition to make way for a highrise condominium. Our inspiration came from recognizing this old company that was there for many years, and which seemed to be long forgotten, and soon to disappear altogether. I painted the fasteners, the objects I imagined went into the construction of countless things. My friend painted images of people who might have worked there, who had decent jobs and could live and work right in the same neighborhood. It has kind of a ghostly ambience. The pieces were easily removeable so anyone could take them, and a few were.
